That was Larry Glick’s favorite on-air teaser. He was a late night radio host on WBZ, a Boston AM station that dominated the airwaves of my childhood. His show was unpredictable, as were his guests, but I listened with rapt attention–until I conked out. I’m pretty sure my early and covert exposure to Larry Glick’s particular brand of wacky curiosity is largely responsible for my lifelong interest in learning what happened before the thing that happened, or exactly why the thing happened, or maybe, what makes that thing special, or… With a wink and a nod to the ghost of the iconic host, I offer up The Story Behind the Book–a little bit of background on my adventures with The Maestro and Her Protégé.
